Why Do Many Give Up On Their Musical Dreams?

As common as new artists and talented performers are these days, so are the numbers of talented individuals who choose a different route. For every artist or performer that “makes it big” and gets to live out their dream, there are hundreds of other just as talented who don’t choose the same route. Most of the time these people choose from a variety of reasons from lack of faith, lack of initiation, peer pressure or even to social pressure. Many find themselves choosing another path for this reason even though they have the talent and the skill to go far in the industry. Below we elaborated on a couple key things that many of these people should keep in mind when pursuing a different path than the one that they were meant for.

Just Try It!

Most of these people who end up choosing different routes, do it without even getting a glimpse for what their life could look like if they pursued it actively. What all of these types of people need to do is to take a good look at their life being an artist or musician for a period of time long enough to make an accurate decision. By doing this, they can be completely honest with themselves about whether this is something they want to actively pursue or not. As a side note by doing this they can also develop a great sense of closure as they will no longer wonder about the path not traveled on. So if you have a career right now as a carpet cleaner, banker restaurant server, or even fence installation specialist, it will do no harm to take some time off and get the closure you need before returning to your previous line of work.

Don’t Listen To Other People.

What most people also fail to realize when it comes to making a decision such as this, is the fact that other people don’t matter as much as they keep thinking! Too many times up and coming musicians will have a dream get shut down from parents or society because it is either too risky or not a good use of their talents in the eyes of both influences. These types of musicians need to realize that this is their life and that they are the ones who are going to be going to work every day so in that sense they should make sure they are doing something fulfilling and rewarding, that they chose themselves. Everyone should focused on never giving up on their dreams because sometimes they do come true.

Why Do Some Performers Lose Their Passion?

We see this scenario time and time again, from artists who go off on the wrong path for whatever reason and lose their entire passion for their gift and refuse to do it anymore. From anyone such as Kurt Cobain of Nirvana to Jimmy Hendrix who both suffered from severe mental depression and anxiety at a time when both of their careers were peaking, to everyone in between. Many have been claimed by similar feelings of depression and anxiety while at the pinnacle of their careers. The question that many have studied and can not figure out is why? What could possibly drive a person as successful as the most famous musicians of the century into suicide or removal from their craft? As foggy of a question as this is, many have come to a common conclusion that this is mainly due to the fact that even though they may suffer from severe problems, no one would seem to understand because from the outside it looks as though they have everything so perfect. This feeling of disconnect can drive most of them past the breaking point and into other extreme scenarios.

Other Possible Reasons?

Now of course the feeling of disconnect is not the only thing that can push people past their limit, sometimes their are many other factors that come into play when artists or bands lose their passion. Another big reason of why is simply because they define themselves by their craft to such extremes that they do not know how to do anything else. They usually look back on their life and realize that they have spent so much time for example, learning to sing and perform all the while, never taking the time to develop a relationship or make friendships last. These feelings of regret can envelop them until they can no longer sing or perform without having feelings of regret overcome them, so in the end they are forced to stop. The only choice they have is to then move on to find another career such as the famous rapper Vanilla Ice, who took on learning the trades from floor refinishing to plumbing to begin renovating houses.

Whatever the reason is, lack of time devoted to anything else, or their unrelatable problems, it really is unfortunate how many great artists and performers we lose on a consistent basis. Aside from treating these people like rock stars, we need to also treat them as people who have other lives outside of the music world. If we can all simply do this, the professional music industry might be a slightly happier place.

Being A Musician

This is definitely one of the most common dreams amongst all youngsters, to be a rockstar. Many adore the glamour that comes with the fame and fortune of performing on stage in front of thousands of people. When most either choose to follow their dreams or choose a different route usually takes place around the age ranges from 17 to 21. It is in this time during every aspiring “rock star’s” life when they must take into account their talents, odds against them and the industry in whatever state it is in. They have to either place their faith in their gift, or comes to grips with reality that it might never happen. Below are just a couple tips gathered from some of the more established pro’s in the music business on what it takes to succeed.

Not only does the dream of being a rockstar require practice and hard work, it requires smart practice and hard work focused in the correct place. Many amateur musicians don’t have the proper guidance in order to fulfil their full potential simply because they don’t know what they are doing when it comes to getting better. It is always recommended that you seek out a teacher or a mentor in the form of someone who you aspire to be like so that you can learn from them as much as possible.

Right Place, Right Time

So now that you’ve put in the practice and the hard work, the next step is to get some gigs, or start playing in front of others. As much luck as this step requires, it also requires diligence because sometimes you can create your own luck. It is an absolute necessity that one must prospect, shake hands make connections and impress strangers in order to start creating a name for themselves. By doing this you make yourself as likely as possible to shake hands with a record label agent, or someone established in the industry and open a door for yourself right then and there. You can make your own luck this way and as opposed to waiting to get noticed, you basically force yourself to be noticed and you force your way into the industry in a way. This is the final step to get right as after this the next step is living out your dream as a rockstar performing in front of thousands of people.
